New Years Day by Poichanchan New Years Day by Poichanchan
This is probably how most of the world Spent 1st Of January.
1st of January. New Years Day. The Start of a Brand New Year.
A period of remembrance of the year passed. A celebration of the Year passed.

What did you do during 2012?

How many Lives did you save? How many things did you change for the better? Why... WHAT is your reason, for celebration...?
So many families lost sons and daughters, moms and dads. In some cases, for no reason at all. So many people are going to sleep on a freezing sidewalk tonight... So many people must be worried and looking for missing relatives...

Frankly, unless we managed to brighten up a home of save a soul, I don't see how anyone is proud of anything this past year enough to have lit fireworks.
And if celebration was done because its a chance to turn over a leaf, THAT, could have been done any time during the year.
Meh. Just my opinion. Everyone who doesn't agree, Cheers...
I didn't celebrate though xD
Here, have an emo Digi Painting =v=

Whoa. That was really deep O.O It has a lot of truth to it, though. I suppose it's just human nature to be caught up in our own lives and not stop to think about what could be happening to other people in this world, especially when the issues are problems. I find that we like to run from problems, and if you think about it, basically all we've been aiming for for the past decade or so (even more than that) is to simply make our lives easier and more comfortable. We've been conditioned to live life the easy way, which is why we don't think about the less fortunate; because to us, it's a problem that we can't fix, or be bothered enough to fix. No one is proud of what they do, but I guess celebrating a day where we 'turn over a new leaf' makes us feel better about not doing anything about the world's problems.

Well, I could go on for longer, but I think I'm starting to ramble now, so... that was a fun tirade, in any case

Hrm, exactly.
But even if the problem is somewhat unsolvable... it is absolutely downright IMPOSSIBLE for one to have been able to make no difference at all.
How many lives did any of us touch?
How many people would have suffered a little more, had we not existed?
If the answer is none, then what was the point of one's life this year...?
To get good grades? Money? Experiences Selfishness. Selfish personal 'feelgood' accomplishments that people wont even remember if you dontkeep reminding them....
However, sponsoring a poor child for a touch of education, or maybe just a piece of bread on a cold night could be things that may be remembered for a lifetime...
i think lots of people need to get their priorities right... but once again, just my personal opinion. Who'm i to judge or enforce my will on others? :D
haha, It was wonderful having this discussion with you :)

Ahaha yes, I agree with you, on all points XD

Humans really are a selfish species. We are simply too apathetic to try to change anything about the world or do anything truly worthwhile. We care, of course, but not enough to actually DO anything!
I suppose that it’s the same thing with global warming. We all know, to a certain extent, what problems it means for the world, and yet we do no discernable thing to help slow it down, unless it’s an action that won’t affect the level of comfort in our lives. That kind of misses the point though, doesn’t it?
And if we can’t solve a problem as big as that, then why can’t we try to solve the things that are a little smaller, a little more manageable? Maybe by even just stopping to ,think about this at all!
But no, we just try to dump our problems on everyone else, and try to blame everything else. Blame the government, blame our friends, blame our family.
But really, in the end, what does all this accomplish? Whose live have we changed or made for the better? Why do we focus all of our energy on such pointless endeavors and always forget to look at the bigger picture?
We are so caught up with work, gossip, news and what will come tomorrow, that we never stop to see what might be going on in someone else’s life. When we honk at someone in traffic, do we ever stop to wonder if they’re frustrated, as well? Of course not.
We can’t even stop to think about the lives of the people around us, which is part of the reason why it takes so much effort to put any real thought into the problems of people halfway around the world as us.
Charities, though, are founded by the fraction of the world that is determined enough, and sympathetic enough, to actually try to make a difference. Even if we all simply donated one dollar, it would really make a huge difference to third-world countries and whatnot, so why don’t we?
Again, because we are lazy and selfish.
It’s hard knowing that the only way we are truly going to change how we think is by changing our entire nature…

Well, that was an even longer tirade than the one before, but as always, interesting conversation!

oh god, i didnt expect this long a comment when i scrolled down! yaaay xD
everyone takes part in the blame game... ignoring the large impact a tiny thing can have. The butterfly effect :D
my problem is the extravagant display of insolence/foolishness people put up. A celebration of ignorance and insensitivity. I've personally seen people who've had the most terrible attitudes the past year laugh, cheer, celebrate... Haha... some people actually got killed and injured as a result of the the festivities... men and children... new years day. Families hurt already.
SO obviously i was enraged...
I dont mean to sound righteous... Poichanchan didnt exactly deliver alot of love to the heartbroken masses or start a revolution. But i didnt hurt anyone in such a sad way either. nor did i celebrate when the general population is suffering... Changing nature indeed. Everyone needs to have their priorities set straight, and have good reasons for their priorities for being the way they are....

Alright, I'll keep this one fairly short as you're probably tired of reading five paragraphs of thoughts XD

It's true, even though the two of us are discussing a topic like this, we haven't done anything, ourselves, to make the situation of the world any better. But, as you said, we didn't make it worse, and I, like you, didn't jump around cheering and celebrating my life without regards as to how others' lives are happening.
Maybe it's because we want to be ignorant, I don't know. Because celebrating something good in our own lives is better than focusing on the problems in someone else's.....

YES! I kept it short... I have trouble telling people things without needing to put in all the insignificant details, so this is kind of a first for me :D

Oh lol,comprehensive writing xD
You dont have to hold back though... LET IT ALL OUT! :icondeterminationplz:

Yes. We should not loose ourselves in other's problems to the point of our own lives loosing it's sparkle...But there is a difference between this and having a sense of humanity... It takes alot of effort to be ignorant of the people suffering ... which is why i'm angry xD
This is just an example of sorts, but celebrating without having made a difference... is kinda like laughing and sticking your tongue out at a crying injured person who might bleed to death in a few minutes. Without having any intention of helping.
Maybe im taking things too harshly? Meh. This may not really apply to you and your country, but i bet every person living on the streets would feel this way no matter where they are...
jesfcksfsnjknjvkfdvnf we have plenty to be happy about. We eat out, we dress in clothes we'd like to wear, talk to people over the world, have homes and families. Instead of complaining and not appreciating those and celebrating silly events that have no real meaning...
Lol, the more i let my thoughts out the more i wonder whether i unknowingly offended anyone or stepped out of place O.o

That's true! Why should we celebrate if we haven't done anything at all?

We hardly spare a thought for the people who have less then us, then are surprised when we see the homeless on the streets, even when we have done nothing to address the problem. We should appreciate the things we have because someone else in the world, probably the majority of them, would kill to have our lives.
I started reading this book, and this one line,

The U.S., Russia, Canada, Denmark, and Norway all claim the Arctic, but none of them seem to care that the polar bears are drowning,

really held my attention. Because it's true, isn't it? It's not about saving the Arctic, it's about owning it! How come we can never be satisfied with what we have? And why do we have the audacity to celebrate our year if this is all that we have done?

...And that last sentence reminded me of our other discussion... wow, society really IS influential O^O

HAHA... Sorry about not being able to reply... i was kinda busy and didnt want to rush a reply :D
I love this quote! :D Thank you for sharing it with me xD
I, am a Pakistani. Pakistan is my country. Which makes Pakistan my Responsibility.
It makes it my duty and obligation to do everything in my power to help my fellow Pakistanis. and when i did nothing that'd justify 365 days of my life just passed, why celebrate?
1st jan is just a commercial gimmick i tell ya :(
I live pretty so-so 'well off'... i'm happy. I can go out to watch a moovie, use the internet, and sleep warm. perhaps there were movies i didnt really NEED to go out and watch... maybe i didnt really feel like i'd kill to eat a pizza last time i ordered... maybe someone else would've benefitted :D
i guess the way to go about this would be being a tiny bit more conscious about luxuries such as these...

in your description you have mentioned people who have lost their families...that reminded me of the killings(of the minor community) in karachi and quetta on the basis of religion :(...i knw we can not do anything about it but whats the worst part about it is that people dont seem to care! i dont knw if u have heard about the murder in india but the people there are so united that they actually stood against the criminals, to give justice to the girl...now they have a reason to celebrate cuz at least they r united...but im really happy someone thinks like me too :)
